Valencian Moto GP

October 2008 (annual) Circuito de la Comunidad Valenciana Ricardo Tormo. The last race in the most important motorcycle racing championship in the world gets under way in Cheste! From October 24th to 26th, for the tenth year in a row, the Parts Europe MotoGP race (or Gran Premio de Motociclismo Parts Europe de la Comunitat Valenciana to give it its official title) is taking place at the Ricardo Tormo Speed Circuit.

Opera in the city of Valencia

Open the season 2009-2010 at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia in Valencia. If the architecture of the new opera house in Valencia is spectacular, the quality of its programming is no less impressive. Lorin Maazel has signed as musical director for the first three seasons and he will be actively involved in putting together the opera house's orchestra.

Formula One in Valencia

2008 (August 22,23 & 24th) sees Valencia hosting the European Formula One (F1) for the very first time. Although the City has a racing circuit (Ricardo Tormo), the organisers and F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone have decided on a Street Circuit. We have all seen the excitement Monaco creates and now Valencia have a similar task ahead...it will be one of the highlights of next seasons races.

The Spanish Portrait

Valencia is the first city that will enjoy the privilege of simultaneously exhibiting 130 paintings that make up the complete catalogue of the two complementary exhibitions about the Spanish portrait organised by the Prado Museum as pioneers in its programme Prado Itinerante (The Travelling Prado). El retrato español en el Prado. Del Greco a Goya (The Spanish portrait in the Prado: From El Greco to Goya), which will finish its tour of five autonomous regions here, and El retrato español en el Prado. De Goya a Sorolla (The Spanish portrait in the Prado: From Goya to Sorolla), which is presented for the first time with 68 works, can be visited in the San Pio V and in the IVAM, respectively.

Reflections of Apolo in Valencia

The Prehistoric Museum of Valencia houses the exhibition Reflejos de Apolo. Deporte y arqueologia en el Mediterraneo antiguo (Reflections of Apolo. Sport and archaeology at the old Mediterranean) until the 21st of October. Discover the sport spirit of the classic Greece.

The summer nights at Oceanografic

l'Oceanografic of the Arts and Sciences City of Valencia programs during the summer, under the title Nights at l'Oceanografic, a special dolphin's exhibition that helps to understand the special relationship between this species and the human being, and makes possible to discover the magic that hides behind it.

July Fair 2007 in Valencia

In July, Valencia dances to its own exciting beat, with concerts, markets, exhibitions and workshops organised at different locations around the city from 2nd to 27th July. On the opening day of the Fair, Wednesday at 8.00 pm., tribute is paid to different musical styles through a series of concerts. The Plaza de la Virgen is undoubtedly the ideal place to enjoy regional melodies such as the tabalet and the dolçaina, cornets and drums, and typical instruments played in traditional music bands.

Leonardo da Vinci and Music in Valencia

Discover the relationship that Leonardo da Vinci had with music in an exhibition offered by La Beneficència Arts Centre in Valencia until 15th July. Inventor, sculptor, painter and... musician?

The exhibition Leonardo da Vinci y la musica (Leonardo da Vinci and Music), installed in La Beneficència Arts Centre in Valencia, reflects the special relationship that Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519), the architect, inventor, painter and sculptor etc. had with the musical art form, contributing new theories about musical sounds and even the invention of new instruments such as the paper organ, the flute drum, the viola organista, the arm lyre or the three reed rattle.

Valencia in search of the Golden Fleece

Great exhibition Kingdom and City. Valencia in its History

The exhibition Kingdom and City. Valencia in its History, which can be seen from 18th April to 15th July in the Centre del Carmen, in the historic centre of the city of Valencia, is organised by the Caja Madrid Foundation in collaboration with the Generalitat, the Region of Valencia Museum Consortium and the Museum of Fine Arts in Valencia. The project poses a reflection on the history of Valencia stemming from its current prosperous reality, insisting on the historic signification of the physical, cultural and political space that makes up the Region of Valencia today.

Dansa Valencia anniversary

Dansa València celebrates its twentieth anniversary with the best of the classic and experimental ballet for two weeks, in which the spectacle is complemented with discussion tables, conferences and exhibitions. Companies and dancers from Madrid, Catalonia, Murcia, Valencia, Basque Country, Andalusia, the Canary Islands, Cuba and France like Ananda Dansa, Centro Coreografico Gallego, Chanta la Mui or the Cuba National Ballet will have the opportunity to show the best of their repertoire from the 26th of April to the 6th of May in five Valencia theatres.

The meeting of two seas. São Paulo-Valencia Biennial


Valencia welcomes the Encuentro entre dos mares (The meeting of two seas) until the 17th of June, in which 176 Spanish, Jordanian and Latin American artists participate showing their work in five great exhibitions. This meeting has turned Valencia into a cultural showcase of artistic creation, which, using the slogan Tolerance and Solidarity, explores the relationships between Latin American and Spanish contemporary art. Pop Art in the IVAM in Valencia

The Muralla hall of the Valencian Institute of Modern Art (IVAM) will, until 20th May, be the venue of the exhibition El Pop en la Coleccion Grafica del MBA (Pop in the Graphic Collection of the MBA). The display, made up of 53 works belonging to the MBA collection, brings together the graphic work of some of the key names of North American pop art such as Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, Robery Rauchenberg, Roy Lichtenstein, Pietro Psaier, Mel Ramos and Robert Indiana. The exhibition constitutes a journey through the different variants of pop art, from its beginnings with artists like Rauchenberg, right up to its later development in the eighties with creators such as the late-lamented Haring.

Segrelles, the illustrator, in the San Pio V

The San Pio V Museum of Fine Arts in Valencia pays homage to Segrelles, the great Valencian illustrator, who worked in newspapers such as the Herald Tribune and the New York Times. You have got until 13th May to get to know his work.

The exhibition Jose Segrelles. Las mil y una noches (Jose Segrelles: The thousand and one nights) brings together a total of 125 works, many of which hitherto unseen, that the Valencian artist carried out to illustrate this classic of literature for the publishing company Salvat. For Jose Segrelles, Eastern dreamer, it was enough just to read it in order to be able to create the oriental atmosphere in his drawings of Moorish towers, white walls and Arab ceramics. In The thousand and one nights Segrelles unfurls that world of race and legend.

International Kite Festival in Valencia

If you like kites then your destination is Valencia. The capital of Turia is the venue, from 13th to 15th April, for its City of Valencia International Kite Festival. Come and fly your Milotxa, Easter is here!

Between 13th and 15th April the Paseo Maritimo (Promenade) will be the venue for the tenth City of Valencia International Kite Festival. The kites will brighten up the blackness of the Valencian night with their multi-coloured and fluorescent lights and in the daytime, with the sea as a backdrop, more than four thousand will be dancing at the same time in a colourful three-ring circus. For three days flat-framed light kites, born of the passion of creators such as the New Zealander Peter Lynn, who has constructed the largest ones in the world, will crown the pure and privileged Valencian firmament both by day and by night.

Valencia tennis

The Valencia Tennis Club will be the venue for the new celebration of the Tennis Open in the Region of Valencia from 7th to 15th April. Come to Valencia and you will be able to enjoy the best match and the best tennis players.

Ferrero, Ferrer, Andreev or Coria are some of the tennis players who will be participating in the 5th Tennis Open of the Region of Valencia, after the success of last year, when Nicolas Almagro from Murcia took the title to the surprise of all his rivals. The player from Onteniente, Juan Carlos Ferrero, forerunner of the tournament, will once again be one of the favourites opting for a title, given that he already achieved this in 2003.

Americas Cup

From 23rd June to 7th July the outcome of the 32nd America's Cup Match, which will be contested by the Defender Alinghi and the Challenger, winner of the Louis Vuitton Cup, the Emirates Team New Zealand, will be decided. It will be a thrilling nautical duel in the waters of the Valencian bay; the best of 9 regattas. The winning team will take the longed-for One Hundred Guinea Silver Cup and will obtain the right to organise the 33rd America's Cup. The final duel is served. Many have dreamt of this moment since, in the year 2003, the pre-regattas of the Louis Vuitton Acts began. This is the hour of the best boat and the best prepared crew, there is no margin for error, the unknown is about to be revealed.

Superbikes in the Region of Valencia Circuit

Four-cycle motors, free exhaust pipes and the smell of petrol in a full motor weekend in Cheste. Come to the Circuit and discover all the emotion of the series-derived motorbike races: up to six races with their training sessions in four categories: Suberbike, Supersport, Superstock 1000 and Superstock 600. don't blink you might miss it!

The "Ricardo Tormo" Region of Valencia Circuit will be the venue for the fourth world Superbike trial and for the rest of the series-derived motorbike categories this weekend, on 4th, 5th and 6th April.

Titanic the Exhibition in Valencia

Since the Titanic disappeared below the waters on 15th April 1912 it has captivated the world. Almost a hundred years later, its true story reaches Valencia through objects, images and documents.

Titanic the Exhibition, a lively display with different complementary acts and activities, reaches Valencia after passing through various cities around the world. The exhibition is located in the lower part of l'Umbracle and will form part of the exhibition offer of the Science Museum for a year.

Las Fallas: Ninot Exhibition in Valencia

Around 800 ninots will be put to a popular vote, which exempts them from the fire, in the Esplanade of the New Centre of the city of Valencia. The Ninot Exhibition, as a traditional preface to the Fallas 2008 Fiestas, located in a marquee in the Esplanade of the New Centre of the city of Valencia, houses all the figures, ninots, that will fight to win the much yearned for reprieve from the fire. This display, which gathers together around 800 ninots from amongst the different children's and adults' categories, will be open until 15th March.

Jose Sanleon belongs to a generation of artists that, during the eighties, contributed, in an outstanding way, to the renovation of the national aesthetic panorama.

For the Love of Art

The North American artist Robert Indiana, one of the maximum exponents of pop art, has filled the Gran Via Marques del Turia of Valencia with love with fourteen of his monumental sculptures. Por amor al arte (For the Love of Art) is the general title of the exhibition which gathers together enormous works such as Love, Art, ImperialLove, Amor and Love Wall or his well-known TenNumbers (One through Zero), some numbers that Indiana has turned into spectacular installations that will adorn the Valencian avenue until 25th February. Don't hesitate and come to Valencia For the Love of Art.

Experience Athleticism in its Purest Form

In the Luis Puig pavilion in the capital of Turia on the 27th January the indoor athletics category of the XXVI Copa de Clubes SS.MM. El Rey y La Reina (XXVI TRH The King and The Queen Clubs Cup) will be held.

We are talking about a competition on a national level in which the eight best clubs in Spain, both male and female, and the best Spanish athletes of the moment will be coming together. It is foreseen that this year around 250 participants will be taking part.

Hybrid Universe at the Beneficiencia

The Museum of Prehistory and Valencia's Cultures (La Beneficencia) is the venue for the exhibition Universo mestizo (Hybrid Universe), a display that aims to give an anthropological vision of one of the most topical subjects nowadays: immigration. The exhibition will remain in the Beneficiencia until 28th January. A total of 150 nationalities, some of which represented by just one person, are the result of this search for stories and images carried out in Madrid by the journalists Lola Delgado and Daniel Lozano.

F1: Alonso and Mclaren in Valencia

The City of Arts and Sciences will be showing the world Fernando Alonso in his new single-seater of the McLaren Mercedes motor-racing team on 15th January. A display by the twice champion along an urban circuit specially designed for the day will turn Valencia into the world capital of Formula One. Cirque du Soleil, music and, of course, fireworks will make up the programming, which it is foreseen that 200,000 people will attend. Take advantage of the first opportunity of the year to see Alonso speeding off in his new racing car.

The Neapolitan Nativity Scene in the National Museum of Ceramics of Valencia

Allow yourself to be seduced by the Rococo of the Palace of the Marquis of Dos Aguas in Valencia and, until 8th February, come and see the famous and artistic Nativity Scene.

Dating back to the 18th century, it comprises 29 figures of various different sizes between 10 and 40 centimetres. The figures are made out of wire covered in burlap with the head modelled out of terracotta and the extremities out of carved wood. The cloths with which they are dressed were made up in the Royal Cloth Factory, founded by Carlos III (Charles III) in San Leucio, near Naples. The woodwork of the figures can be attributed to different Neapolitan sculptors of the 18th century.

At two oclock everyone to the mascleta in Valencia

As with every year, on the first day of March the mascletàs begin in the City Council square, to be launched every day, without interruption, at two oclock in the afternoon until San Jose's day on 19th March. Only for seven or eight minutes - but what minutes! - during which the adrenaline shoots up at the same time as the masclets, the fireworks and the noise. And, you have to be there to experience it.

The mascletà is a pyrotechnic display that has very little to do with the castillos (fireworks displays) in which light and colour take precedence. The difference is that the castillo is looked at and admired while the mascletà is heard, experienced and felt.

Ecological exhibition at the Museum of Science

The Prince Felipe Museum of Science hosts the Felix, 25 years of ecological awareness exhibition

The exhibition, which can be seen on the third floor of the Museo de las Ciencias until 25th March, pays tribute to the importance of Felix Rodriguez de la Fuente as a pioneer in environmental education and in protecting nature and presents an up-to-date view of the situation of protected natural spaces and of the state of the woods, rivers and lands of our country, as well as showing the evolution of environmental culture on Spanish society over the last 25 years.

The pioneers of Valencian archaeology, collections of old Nativity Scenes, Prehistory activities for all the family, visions of multiculturalism or panoramic retrospectives on towns and cities in the Region of Valencia are just some of the interesting proposals offered to you by the Mediterranean Arts Centre La Beneficència in Valencia.

As well as the interesting collections and permanent exhibitions in the Prehistory and Ethnology Museums of the Valencia Provincial County Council, the Mediterranean Arts Centre La Beneficència in the city of Valencia also offers attractive cultural proposals around this time.

The valencian painter Ignacio Pinazo in the IVAM

The Valencian Institute of Modern Art (IVAM) is the venue for, from 5th December to 4th March, the exhibition Periferias: Ignacio Pinazo en la coleccion del IVAM (Outskirts: Ignacio Pinazo in the IVAM Collection).

This exhibition gathers together 70 small format works from the IVAM collection named by the exhibition commissioner as "peripheral". This name responds to what the brilliant Valencian painter reflected in these works; details of daily life and of the landscape on the outskirts of the city.

Christmas at Valencia

For yet another year Christmas reaches Valencia more spectacularly than ever. New more ecological lighting with more lively colours will be filling the capital of Turia spreading through the woodland right up to the city itself.And in the centre of its most central square a great Nativity Scene, the largest ever seen in this great square; the Bancaja Nativity Scene. Quite a display, and one that you just cannot miss.

Sorolla in the Museum of the 19th Century

Until 7th January the Carmen de Valencia Centre will be exhibiting the photographic display Sorolla y la Otra Imagen (Sorolla and the Other Image). Through the old photograph collection of the Museo Sorolla de Madrid (Sorolla Museum of Madrid) this exhibition explores the impact that this revolutionary means had on the era in the life and work of the Valencian painter. Discover the true Sorolla in some black and white images that captured the most important moments of his life.

Nature at a Jazz Rhythm in Valencia

The Joan Plaça Auditorium of the Botanic Gardens of Valencia will be the setting for the performance of the Alberto Sanchez Group on Saturday 14th October, within the Jazz at the Botanic musical cycle. The concert is at half past seven in the evening and the entrance is free of charge with an invitation.

The cycle continues with the concerts by Amadeu Adell Liles on Saturday 18th November and the Ramon Cardo Trio on the 16th December.

The Moon at the MUVIM in Valencia

Until the 26th of November, The MUVIM is host to the exhibion maginary Trips to the Moon, which portrays expeditions to the moon through the presentation of antique books, illustrations, cinema posters, photographs and even personal objects from members of the expedition teams.

Dance in the Main Theater in Valencia

The next december will be the month of dance in the Main Theater with performances of two classics: Carmen (from the 1st to the 3rd) ans Sleeping Beauty (from the 18th to 31st).

Vespas at Price Felipe Museum in Valencia

Twelve Vespas and a great Vespone are to be on exhibit in the museum Principe Felipe de Valencia until 6th January in this show of the most significant models of the beloved Italian make of motorcycles. Vespa, which started out 60 years ago, in the month of April of 1946, has, since then, launched more than a hundred different models that are, as always, both original and spectacular.
