Sorolla in the Museum of the 19th Century

Until 7th January the Carmen de Valencia Centre will be exhibiting the photographic display Sorolla y la Otra Imagen (Sorolla and the Other Image). Through the old photograph collection of the Museo Sorolla de Madrid (Sorolla Museum of Madrid) this exhibition explores the impact that this revolutionary means had on the era in the life and work of the Valencian painter. Discover the true Sorolla in some black and white images that captured the most important moments of his life.

The exhibition is made up of a selection of 155 pieces amongst which are photographs, albums and miniature photographs, and these are organised into five sections: the family photograph, the artist's circle, studies and home, miniatures and photograph albums and photography and its influence in the work of Sorolla.

The display exhibits images of the royal family and the painters of the time as well as the world of show business and the United States. Amongst the images are the great subjects that figured in the work of the master such as the vegetable garden or the sea of the commission that he received from the Hispanic Society of New York.
