Valencia Bridges

In this section you will find information about the ancient and modern bridges of the city of Valencia over the Turia river. There are two footbridges, however most are road bridges. The oldest is the Trinity Bridge.

 

Del Mar Bridge in Valencia

Puente del Mar

It was rebuilt after flooding in 1591 that destroyed the simple wooden bridge that stood in its place, and for centuries was the natural route connecting the city with the port.

Del Real Bridge in Valencia

Puente del Real

16th century bridge. Holds images of both Saint Vincent Martyr (died in 3rd century AD) and Saint Vincent Ferrer (died in 1419). The bridge connected the Palacio del Real to the walled city.

Exhibition Bridge in Valencia

Puente de la Exposicion

The Exhibition Bridge –the white comb like work by Santiago Calatrava– spanning the riverbed between the ancient ashlars of the Real Bridge and the Flowers Bridge.

The Trinity Bridge

Puente de la Trinidad

The Trinidad Bridge is one of the oldest bridges in the city. Was built in the Gothic style in the 14th century, on the remnants of a Moorish bridge made of wood.

Serranos Bridge

Puente de Serranos

The Puente de Serranos was built in 1518, when was arranged to have its predecessor rebuilt after it was swept away in the previous year’s flood. The new stone bridge was built on nine arches.

San Jose Bridge

Puente de San Jose

The San Jose Bridge had three arches and the two sculptures on its cutwaters. The first records date back to the early 14th century. It is also called Puente de la Santa Cruz.

Arts Bridge

Puente de Las Artes

The Pont de les Arts was erected in the late 20th century when the dry riverbed had already been turned into the city’s biggest park. It provides a touch of modernity.

Flowers Bridge in Valencia

Puente de las Flores

The Flower Bridge, which opened in 2002, joins the Citadel to the Alameda. It owes its name to the flower pots full of flowers that can be found on both sides.
