In July, Valencia dances to its own exciting beat, with concerts, markets, exhibitions and workshops organised at different locations around the city from 2nd to 27th July. On the opening day of the Fair, Wednesday at 8.00 pm., tribute is paid to different musical styles through a series of concerts. The Plaza de la Virgen is undoubtedly the ideal place to enjoy regional melodies such as the tabalet and the dolçaina, cornets and drums, and typical instruments played in traditional music bands.
On Saturday night, at 11.00 pm. on 12th July, Valencia will be transformed into a huge urban theatre, as various activities take place. Coinciding with these events, the city's museums will stay open for one night only until 1.30 in the morning. Entry is free.
And just like every year, music will fill the Royal Gardens, popularly known as the Viveros or Nursery Gardens. A wide variety of music will be performed at a number of concerts, starting at 10.15 pm: Adamo, Gloria Gaynor, Azul y Negro and The Blues Brothers Band are just a few of the acts performing in the city.
But the star event of the July Fair and naturally the most emblematic is the Batalla de Flores, literally the Battle of Flowers. On Sunday 27th July, from 8.00 pm. onwards, the Paseo de la Alameda will be covered in a brightly coloured carpet of flowers.
