Utiel-Requena Wines
Utiel-Requena is a designation of origin for wines from the Utiel-Requena region located in the west of the province of Valencia where there are more than 100 wineries, many of them cooperative. The winemaking tradition of the region dates back to the 7th century BC. as corroborated by different archaeological finds. 80% of the plantations are of the Bobal variety, a species that is almost exclusive to the Utiel-Requena designation of origin and highly valued.
Red grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, Tempranillo, Garnacha, Bobal.
White grape varieties: Sauvignon Blanc
Characteristics of the wines of this wine region:
Superior
Reds from the 1st or 2nd year without aging, and whites and rosés that have high organoleptic qualities. They have an alcohol content higher than 11 degrees.
Tradición
They are those obtained from the Bobal variety (native). Only a maximum of 30% mixture of other varieties is allowed. It will have a minimum alcohol content of 12% volume. Its types can be: Crianza, Reserva, Gran Reserva, Superior or barrel-matured.
Madurado en barrica
Subjected to a stay in oak barrels for less than 6 months. This stay will contribute to modifying its initial characteristics, thereby transforming its primary chromatic, aromatic and gustatory qualities. Its alcohol content will be a minimum of 12% by volume.
Crianza
Red wine, subjected to a minimum aging process of 2 years, of which at least 6 months will have remained in oak barrels. Minimum degree 12 degrees.
Reserva
Red wine, subjected to a minimum aging process of 3 years, of which at least 1 year will have remained in oak barrels. Afterwards, it must rest in the bottle for 2 years. Minimum degree 12 degrees.
Gran reserva
Red wine, subjected to a minimum aging process of 5 years, of which at least a year and a half will have remained in oak barrels. Afterwards, it must rest in the bottle for 3 and a half years. Minimum degree 12 degrees.
Cavas
Sparkling wines using the traditional method from 10.5 to 11.5 degrees of alcohol.
