Valencia's San Pio V Fine Arts Museum is helping to make the general public more aware of the work of El Greco with an exhibition that shows both his work and that of other painters who admired him. El Greco. Toledo. 1900 recreates the atmosphere of early 20th century Toledo, a key moment in the recovery of the figure of El Greco.
24 canvases painted by El Greco and his Workshop, from different public and private collections in Toledo at the start of the 20th century, a fine example of the Obras completas de Jenofonte, annotated by El Greco and belonging to the library of the Marques de la Vega Inclan, as well as a portrait of the artist painted by Joaquin Sorolla in 1910 can be seen at the San Pio V Fine Arts Museum in Valencia until June 15th.
This comprehensive exhibition is rounded off with an interesting selection of photographs taken by Mariano Moreno in the early 1900's from the Archivo Moreno collection at the Instituto del Patrimonio Historico Español-IPHE.
