The Dansa València festival of dance will be celebrating its anniversary at nine venues throughout the city of Valencia from 25th April to 4th May. Hosting the event are theatres such as the Teatro Principal, the Teatro de los Manantiales, the Talia and l'Altre Espai, plus independent venues such as the Carme Teatre, El Corral de la Olivera, Espacio Inestable, Teatro Circulo and the Teatro Grancielo. This year's festival will see a special award go to Mats Ek for his contribution to world dance. Also being celebrated this year is the 10th anniversary of the regional government's Choreography Centre for Theatres (the Centro Coreografico de Teatres de la Generalitat), in special honour of which Dansa València 2008 will be showcasing a performance comprising 10 solos from 10 male and female choreographers from Valencia who have been linked to the Centre's work during the 10 years of its existence.
The nine venues will receive 22 companies from different backgrounds, who will give a total of 46 performances. Dance in Valencia will be represented by five companies, by 10 solos from choreographers, and by the presence of local dancers and choreographers who are now based overseas, such as Clara Barbera from the Rambert Dance Company, Maite Cebrian from the Lyon Opera Ballet, Davis Rodrigo from the company l'Adret and Gustavo Ramirez from Proyecto Titoyaya, among others. The Choreography Centre has established itself as a centre for spreading and promoting dance from the Region of Valencia both nationally and internationally, and has attracted a loyal following in support of dance.
Also taking place, from 28th April to 2nd May at the Teatro Talia theatre, is the Danseta València festival, during which schoolchildren and family audiences can enjoy original performance from the Increpacion Danza and Maria Carbonell dance companies.
