For the first time, art lovers in Spain have a chance to visit the IVAM exhibit on Giorgio De Chirico, exploring the relationship between his paintings and 20th century architecture.
Visitors have until February 17th to discover the work of this Italian artist, one of the most influential surrealists and founder of the artistic movement known as the scuola metafisica, an art form characterized by the placing of images in empty architectonic frameworks alluding to a reality located beyond the painted object.
The exhibit, entitled El siglo de Giorgio De Chirico. Metafisica y arquitectura, displays around 300 of the artist's pieces in different formats and includes texts written by architects such as Paolo Protoghesi or Luca Molinari, and art criticis such as Giuseppe Montesano o Elio Franzini.
The exhibit is divided into three different sections: De Chirico and Architecture / De Chirico y la arquitectura; Architecture and De Chirico / La arquitectura y De Chirico and a third section displaying sixteen photographs by Gabriela Basilico related to the life and work of De Chirico.
