With an equestrian statue of Jaime I, and hundred year old magnolia, palm and pine trees. Built on a pre-existing site in the old Plaza de la Aduana, Martínez Aloy regarded this place to be the lowest in Valencia. The gardens were created around 1850, and forty-seven magnolias and two monkey-puzzle trees were already growing there in 1852. El Parterre took its present appearance quite a while later when the monument to King Jaime I was inaugurated. According to Nebot Pérez, the garden had four circular ponds, four groups of Canary pines, two pisantropes, metrosideros and monkey puzzle trees. The monumental statue dedicated to King Jaime I is an important feature of El Parterre.
