For the first time ever in Europe, the Principe Felipe Science Museum is holding the Star Trek. Welcome Aboard exhibition, which includes several original props from the Star Trek TV series and films. The exhibition, which will be open until February 2011, displays a replica of the command bridge, models and original objects, including audio-visual elements, from this legendary series which did actually predict the future, foreseeing inventions such as laser beams, the CAT scan, the mobile phone and automatic doors.
During the visit there are a dozen ship models for the public to see, including two large-sized models, as well as twenty original costume items. There is also the chance to see the replica of the Enterprise command bridge, a collection of fifteen characters' heads and the space shuttle simulator. The exhibition opens with a video tribute to the series creator Gene Rodenberry filmed by his children.
Scripts from the series, film posters and a mural with concept art of the different stages of the saga can also be viewed. In addition there is also a timeline of the story told through the logs of the Starfleet captains.
The exhibition displays some of the main characters, men and women of different races and with various different features such as the Klingons, Borgs, Romulans, Ferengis and Vulcans. Outside the Museum you will find the flight simulator built and designed in such a way that visitors experience sensations similar to those they would in a real space shuttle.
