ndia. Art and culture on the Indian subcontinent (1857- 2007) at the Valencia Institute of Modern Art (IVAM) is the most important international exhibition of modern and contemporary art from India, one of the world's most culturally dynamic countries.
The exhibition features around 500 works of art by over 100 artists and spans a period of over two centuries. India Moderna narrates the history of a solid and rich artistic tradition, which dates back to the exchange between European and Indian society and their mutual influence. The central argument of this exhibition is that modernity was not just a Western artistic practice but also an international phenomenon.
The exhibition will run until February 15th, coinciding with the ARCO modern art fair in Madrid, at which India is the special guest country in 2009.
