Valencia is getting ready for the celebration of Fallas, the traditional fiesta declared of International Touristic Interest. Nuevo Centro becomes everyone's center of attention until March 15th with the ninots exhibit, organized by the Fallas board in Valencia.
The streets of Valencia are getting ready for the big Fallas celebration. Different activities throughout the city announce the proximity of the biggest and most important fiesta for Valencians.
The Ninot Exhibit showcases the ninots (sculptures made of papier mache) selected by each of the commissions that form part of the Junta Central Fallera in charge of selecting the best ninots. Fallero artists devote an entire year to sculpting these intricate sculptures.
Visitors have an important role to play in the exhibit: it is thanks to their votes that one of the ninots will be "pardoned" (which means it will not be burned during the Crema). The pardoned ninot will be then carried to the Museo Fallero, where all pardoned ninots since the year 1934 are on exhibit, together with photographs, signs, etc.
On March 14th and 15th the different commissions withdraw their ninots. Those ninots that havent been pardoned will return to the pile, where they will turn to ashes on St. Joseph's Day.
The exhibit inaugurates the Fallas season. Visit the exhibit showcasing the work of some of the best artists and the sarcasm of its sculptures. Oh! And don't forget to cast your vote to save your favorite ninot!
