Once again, the monumental crib is installed in Santa Maria Metropolitan Cathedral Basilica until the 6th January. Moreover, the traditional Neapolitan crib can be visited at the National Museum of Ceramics and Sumptuary Arts González Martí in Valencia from next Sunday.
The visit to the crib of the Cathedral, located in the interior of the chapel of San Luis Obispo, is an endearing event for Valencian people and visitors. It occupies the entire space of the chapel where biblical passages are performed. During the tour of the crib you can see the trades of that period, with the work of blacksmiths, potters, and shoemakers or you can see barter markets. This year in particular, there are eleven actual size pieces.
The origin of the Neapolitan crib, which can be visited from 8th December to 2nd February, goes back to the eighteenth century, and is composed of 29 figures of various sizes from 30 to 35 centimetres. The figures are made of wire coated with tow, the head modelled in terracotta, limbs are made of carved wood, eyes with glass and the characters are dressed in costumes of the time.
