The Pont de les Arts was erected in the late 20th century when the dry riverbed had already been turned into the city’s biggest park. It provides a touch of modernity.
The Pont de les Arts has the unusual feature of uniting two old quarters and, between them, and is home to the Valencian Institute of Modern Art, the IVAM.

With its state-of-the-art engineering, the Pont de les Arts provides a touch of modernity in contrast to the nearby ancient bridges with their great ashlars, yet its two 20-metre boards supported transversally on a single pillar do not detract from the historical Puente de San José Bridge nearby. Meanwhile, the riverbed comes alive everyday on its dozens of sports fields, athletics tracks and cycle path.
