The Dominicans were given the use of these quarters by King Jaime I, but in the XIV century, a cloister, several chapels and a classroom were added. The chapel of the Kings was built later still, and this has a vault of great dimensions. The convent's history is very closely linked to that of Valencia's development, such that the premises have been the seat of the General Court of the Kingdom and the former Military Command Headquarters, amongst other institutions.
The tomb of the Marquises of Zenete is to be found here in the church. The wedding between Felipe III and Margarita of Austria took place in the convent, which later was used as a military headquarters, and although the Dominicans subsequently recovered it for their use, in XIX, it became state property.
